Login To The Huawei EchoLife HG866

This guide begins on the Status page of the Huawei EchoLife-HG866 router. To configure the WiFi settings click the link in the left sidebar labeled Network. Then under that pick WiFi. Now look to the top of the page, click the link titled SSID1

Change the WiFi Settings on the Huawei EchoLife HG866

On this new page, use the SSID box to enter a new name for your network. This is for identification purposes. It doesn't matter what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information. Read our Wireless Names Guide for more information.

Now skip down to the Wireless Security. In the Security Mode drop down list pick the option of WPA2-PSK. Learn why this is the best option by reading our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.

It should now ask for the WPA Version. Select the option of WPA2.

Set the Encryption Algorithms to AES.

The last thing you need to do is change the Personal Key. This is the password you use to gain access to your network. We recommend using at least 14-20 characters in this password. Learn more tips by reading our guide titled Choosing a Strong Password.

Click the Apply button when you are finished.

If you need to change the WiFi Channel, click the link at the top of the page labeled General.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
