On this page I will be showing you how to reset the Huawei HG8245A router back to the original factory defaults. A lot of people use the term reset to mean a reboot and a reset. What is the difference?
When you reboot a router you cycle the power to the device. No settings are changed. When you reset a router you take all the settings that have been changed in the past and erase them. They are then reverted back to how they were when they left the factory.
Warning: Resetting the router is a big step and should not be taken lightly. Make a list of the possible settings that have been changed in the past. Some of these settings are:
- The router's principal username and password are erased and returned to factory defaults.
- The WiFi username and password are also erased and reverted back to factory defaults.
- Do you have a DSL router? If so the Internet Service Provider (ISP) username and password need to be re-entered. Call your ISP for these details.
- Have you made any other changes? How about port forwards or IP address changes.

Reset the Huawei HG8245A
As you can see from the image below the reset button is on the side panel. The reset button found here is more of a pinhole than a button. This is to avoid accidental resets.
While the router is on take a bent paperclip or other sharp object and press down on the reset button for a full 10 seconds. If you don't hold the reset button down for the entire 10 seconds you will only reboot the router instead of resetting like you wanted.
Remember a reset like this one erases every setting you have changed in the history of this router. Please consider other methods of accessing your router before you decide to reset.
Login to the Huawei HG8245A
Following that you'll want to log into your Huawei HG8245A router. This is done by using the factory default username and password. Not sure where you can find these? We have them listed for your use in our Login Guide.
Tip: If the defaults aren't logging you in it might be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.
Change Your Password
Now that you've logged into your router we suggest setting a new password for it. Bear in mind that this password will only protect your router settings, not your wireless network. Tip: Prevent yourself from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the bottom of your router.
