How to Reset the Huawei SmartAX-MT882

Have you been trying to login to the Huawei SmartAX-MT882 router unsuccessfully? It might be time to consider resetting the Huawei SmartAX-MT882 router back to the original factory defaults.

This is not the same thing as a reboot. When you reboot a router you are only cycling the power to the unit. When you reset a router you take all the settings and return them all to factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting the Huawei SmartAX-MT882 router is a big step and should not be taken lightly. We recommend creating a list of all the settings you may of changed in the past such as:

  • the router's main username and password.
  • port forwards you may of created.
  • changed IP addresses.

While the router is on, take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for over 3 seconds. If you don't hold it down for at least 3 seconds you might end up rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Warning: Do not unplug the router during the reset process. Your router could be permanently damaged.

Remember a reset like this one is going to erase all your previously changed settings. We strongly suggest trying other troubleshooting methods first.

Login to the Huawei SmartAX-MT882

Once you've reset the Huawei SmartAX-MT882 router you'll want to log into it. Do this by using the factory default username and password. These can be found in our Login Guide.

Tip: Defaults not logging you in? It might be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Now that you've logged into your router we suggest setting a new password for your router. This can be whatever you like, however keep in mind that a strong password is 14-20 characters in length and includes no personal information. Tip: Keep from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the bottom of your router.
