You are then directed to a page like the one you see here. In the box labeled SSID enter a new name for your internet connection. This name acts as a network identifier. It doesn't matter what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information. Learn more about this topic by reading our guide titled How to Change your Wireless Name.

Below that is the Channel. Uncheck the box titled Auto Select. Then in the drop down list pick the channel you want to use. Make sure to use a non-overlapping channel, these are 1,6, and 11. To learn why you need to be using these three channels when you read our guide titled WiFi Channels.

Next is the Security. The best choice is WPA2-PSK. This router does not allow for this. We recommend updating your firmware to allow for it. Learn why WPA2-PSK is the best choice by reading our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.

You now need to enter in the Pre-shared Key. This is the password you use to gain or restrict access to your local internet. We recommend creating a strong password of at least 14-20 characters here. We have more tips in our guide titled Choosing a Strong Password.

That's it, just don't forget to click the Apply button near the bottom of the page.

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
