Have you tried to login to the Linksys BEFVP41v1 router without success? It might be time to consider a reset.

There is quite a bit of confusion about what a reset actually is. When you reset a router you erase all your previous configurations and return the entire router back to factory defaults. When you reboot a router you simply cycle the power to the unit.

Warning: Resetting the Linksys BEFVP41v1 router is a big step and should not be taken lightly. It's a good idea to make up a list of all the possible settings you have changed in the past. These should include settings such as:

  • The router's main username and password.
  • Any port forwarding you have done.
  • Any IP addresses you have changed.
  • Can you think of any other personal settings you have changed?

Reset the Linksys BEFVP41

In the image below I have circled the reset button for you in red. Notice that this reset button is more of a pinhole than an actual button. This is to avoid accidental resets.

While the router is powered on, take a straightened paperclip or similar object and press down on the reset button until the red Diag LED turns on and back off again. When the Diag LED light goes out you can release the reset button. If you don't hold this button down long enough there is a good chance you only rebooted the router instead of resetting it.

Warning: DO NOT unplug or turn off the router during the Linksys BEFVP41v1 reset. Doing so could result in permanent damage to the router.

Remember a reset like this one erases every single setting you have ever changed in the past. We strongly recommend trying other troubleshooting methods first.

Login to the Linksys BEFVP41

Following the router reset you will have to login to the router by using the default IP address, username, and password. Not sure what these are? We have found them for you and included them in our Login Guide for the Linksys BEFVP41v1 router.

Tip: If the defaults don't work you may not have held down the router reset button for long enough. Try resetting it again but this time hold down the button for a little longer.

Change Your Password

Now that you have successfully logged into the router you should change the password as soon as possible in order to keep your router secure. Try to make your password unique. If you need any advice on coming up with a secure password, check out our Choosing a Strong Password guide.

Tip: Want to avoid losing your password? Write it down on a note of some kind and attach it to the base of the router.
