Have you been trying to login to the Linksys WAP55AG router without success? It might be time to consider a reset.

In this guide when I use the term reset I am not referring to a reboot. Rebooting a router is simply cycling the power to the device. No settings are changed during a reboot. When you reset a router you lose all your personal data. A reset takes all the settings and reverts them to factory defaults.

Warning: Sometimes a reset is needed and sometimes it is not. Please try other troubleshooting methods before you decide to reset the Linksys WAP55AG router. Once you have decided to reset the Linksys WAP55AG router make a list of all the possible settings you have changed in the past. These include settings such as:

  • The router's main username and password.
  • The wireless settings such as the network name and password.
  • If you are resetting a DSL router you need to re-enter the Internet Service Provider (ISP) username and password. Call your service provider for these details.
  • Other settings you may not have thought of are port forwards or IP addresses.

While the router is on take a straightened paperclip or similar object and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. This begins the reset process. If you don't hold the reset button for the full 10 seconds you might end up only rebooting the router instead so be careful.

Warning: DO NOT unplug or turn off the router during the reset process. Doing so could cause permanent damage to the device.

Remember this reset is going to erase every single setting you have ever changed during the lifetime of this router. I strongly recommend trying other troubleshooting methods before you decide to reset.
