On this page I will be explaining how to reset the Linksys WET54Gv2 router back to the original factory defaults.

This is not the same thing as a reboot. When I use the term reboot I am referring to a cycle in the power to the device. When I use the term reset I am referring to a full factory restore of all settings. None of your personal settings will be saved.

Warning: All your personal data is erased. I recommend before resetting the Linksys WET54Gv2 router you make a list of all the settings you may of changed in the past as these are all erased. I went ahead and started this list for you.

  • The router's main username and password are erased. These are used to access the router interface.
  • The WiFi settings such as the Internet password and SSID.
  • Are you resetting a DSL router? If so you need to re-enter the ISP username and password. These can be found by calling your Internet Service Provider.
  • What other settings have you changed? How about port forwards or IP addresses?

Reset the Linksys WET54Gv2

In the image below I have circled the reset button for you in red.

While the router is turned on take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. If you don't hold this reset button down for the full 10 seconds you might end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you planned.

Warning: DO NOT unplug the router during the reset process. Doing so can cause permanent damage to the device.

Remember this is going to erase every single setting you have ever changed in the past. I strongly recommend trying other troubleshooting methods before you decide to reset.

Login to the Linksys WET54Gv2

Once the Linksys WET54Gv2 router has finished resetting you will need to login to it by using the default login information. This includes the default IP address, password, and username. If you aren't sure what these are, don't fret. You can check them out in our Login Guide for the Linksys WET54Gv2 router.

Tip: Can't login with the defaults? The router might have not been properly reset. Try resetting it again but this time hold down the reset button for a little longer.

Change Your Password

After you successfully gain access to your router you should change the password from the default. Leaving the default password in place can put your router at risk so it is important to change it as soon as possible. If you need help with making a secure password for your router, visit our Choosing a Strong Password guide.

Tip: Avoid losing your password by writing it down on some paper and then attaching it to the underside of the router.
