Have you been trying to login to the Linksys WRT150 router without success? It might be time to consider a reset.

There is a lot of confusion between a reset and a reboot. The two terms are used interchangeably. The term reboot means to cycle the power to the unit. No settings are changed during a reboot. In this guide when I use the term reset I am referring to a full factory restore of all the settings. This means every setting you have ever changed is erased and returned to factory defaults.

Warning: A reset like this one is a big step and should not be taken lightly. I recommend making a list of all the settings you know you have changed in the past. This list has been started for you:

  • The router's main username and password used to access the router interface pages.
  • The WiFi settings such as SSID and Internet password.
  • Is this a DSL router? If so, you need to re-enter the Internet Service Provider (ISP) username and password.
  • What other settings have you changed in the past? Make sure to write these down as well.

Reset the Linksys WRT150

Below is an image of the back panel of the Linksys WRT150 router. This is the typical placement of the reset button. Notice that this button is more of a pinhole than a normal button. This is done purposefully to avoid accidental resets.

The very first step to this reset is making sure the router is plugged in and turned on. Then taking a small sharp object such as a straightened paperclip, press down on the reset button for around 5 seconds. This begins the reset process. If you don't hold the reset button down for long enough you end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Warning: DO NOT unplug or turn off the Linksys WRT150 router during the reset process. Doing so can cause permanent damage to the device.

Login to the Linksys WRT150

Once the reset is complete it will be time to login to your Linksys WRT150 router. To do this you will need the default login information. This includes the default IP address, password, and username. If you aren't sure what these are you can find them in our Linksys WRT150 Login Guide.

Tip: Defaults not working? The router might have not been properly reset. Try resetting it again but hold down the reset button for a little longer this time.

Change Your Password

Now that you have successfully logged into your router you should change the password as soon as possible. Leaving the default password in place can put your router at risk. Visit our Choosing a Strong Password guide if you are looking for some helpful password creation advice.

Tip: Keep from losing your password by writing it down on a piece of paper and attaching it to the base of your router.
