Here on this page I will be explaining how to properly reset the Linksys WRT310N-ES router back to factory defaults.

This is not the same thing as a reboot. When you reboot a router you are only cycling the power to the unit. When you reset a router you take all the settings and return them to factory defaults.

Warning: This means you lose all your personal settings. I strongly recommend making a list of all the settings you may of changed in the past. This includes:

  • The router's main username and password.
  • The WiFi settings such as the SSID and Internet password. (These are not the same as above.)
  • Are you resetting a DSL router? If so you need to re-enter the Internet Service Provider (ISP) username and password. Call your ISP for these details.
  • What other settings have you changed in the past? Write down these as well.

While the router is plugged in and powered on take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. If you don't hold the reset button down for the full 10 seconds you might end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you planned.

Warning: DO NOT unplug or turn off the router during the reset process. Doing so in the middle of a reset can cause permanent damage to the router.

Remember a reset like this one erases every single setting you have ever changed in the past. I highly recommend exhausting your other troubleshooting methods before you decide to reset.

Login to the Linksys WRT310N-ES

The next step after the reset is to login to your Linksys WRT310N-ES router. To accomplish this you will need to use the default IP address, password, and username. This information has been included in our Login Guide for the Linksys WRT310N-ES router.

Tip: Defaults not working? You might have accidentally rebooted the router instead of resetting it. Try resetting it again but hold down the reset button for just a little longer this time.

Change Your Password

Now that you have successfully logged into the router it is time to change the password from the default. The default password is not very secure and leaving it in place can put your router at risk. If you need help making a password, visit our Choosing a Strong Password guide for some helpful advice.

Tip: Want to avoid losing your password? Try writing it down on a piece of paper and attaching it to the underside of the router.
