You should now be on a page like the one you see above. First of all you need to change the Name (SSID). This is the name you create in order to identify your network. It doesn't really matter what you enter here but we recommend that you avoid using personal information. If you want to know more, check out our guide titled How to Change your Wireless Name.

Next, after you have made sure the region is correct, change the channel if you need to. Everyone should use either channel 1,6, or 11. Find out why in our WiFi Channels Guide.

Now skip down to the Security Options section. The option that is recommended is not available for this version. We strongly recommend that you update your firmware version to allow for WPA2-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key. Find out why in our WEP vs. WPA Guide.

The next setting is titled Passphrase This is your network password. We recommend using a minimum of 14-20 characters here. Find out more in our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

The only other wireless setting that you may want to change is titled Key Lifetime. This is how often your router creates a new encryption key using your password. The longer the time the weaker your security system. We recommend around 60 minutes.

That's all there is to do for the wireless settings, click the Apply button before you leave this page.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
