Setup WiFi on the Netgear WGXB102 AP-Mode

The Netgear WGXB102 AP-Mode router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Wireless Name

Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.

Login To The Netgear WGXB102 AP-Mode

For this WiFi guide, you start on the Access Point Status of the Netgear WGXB102 AP-Mode router. To configure the WiFi settings, click the option of Wireless Settings in the left sidebar.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Netgear WGXB102 AP-Mode

This directs you to the page you see here. First, place your cursor in the box labeled Name (SSID). This is your network ID and it really doesn't matter what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information. Take a look at our Wireless Names Guide for more information.

Now locate the Channel. Use channels 1,6, or 11. To learn why you should use these three channels, read our WiFi Channels Guide.

Now take a look at the Security Options. There are several different choices here. We recommend WPA2-PSK for maximum security. This router version doesn't have this option. Please update your firmware version before continuing to allow for WPA2-PSK. Check out our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.

Once you have chosen your security option, you will need to enter a Passphrase. This is the network password and should be strong. Use at least 14 characters and at least one symbol, number, and capital letter. Find out more in our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

That's all there is to it, just don't forget to click the Apply button before you exit.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
