Setup WiFi on the Netgear WNDR4500v3

The Netgear WNDR4500v3 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

This guide begins on the Home page of the Netgear WNDR4500v3 router. To change your wireless network settings click Advanced near the top of the page. From there click Setupin the left hand sidebar and then Wireless Setup just below that.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Netgear WNDR4500v3

Note that we'll only be making our changes in the Wireless Network(2.4GHz b/g/n) section of the page.

Begin by setting a Name (SSID). This will be your network name and can be anything you want it to be. However, keep in mind that due to security reasons we strongly suggest avoiding the use of any personal information. For more on this topic be sure to visit our Wireless Names Guide.

Next you'll want to set the Channel to either 1, 6, or 11. Want to know why these are the best options? Read our WiFi Channels Guide.

After that you'll want to set the Security Options to WPA2-PSK [AES]. This option will provide you with the best security. Why? Check out our WEP vs. WPA Guide to learn more.

Finally you'll want to set a Password (Network Key). This can be whatever you want it to be, however keep in mind that a strong password contains no personal information and is 14-20 characters in length. For more help be sure to take a look through our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Congratulations! You're done. Just don't forget to click Apply before closing the page.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
