Setup WiFi on the Netgear WNR834B

The Netgear WNR834B router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

Use a VPN

Find the WiFi Settings on the Netgear WNR834B

You begin on the Basic Settings page of the Netgear WNR834Bv2 router. To configure the WiFi settings click the option of Wireless Settings in the left sidebar under Setup.

This takes you to the correct page. First you need to change the Name (SSID). Go ahead and enter a unique name for your network here. It doesn't really matter what you enter but we suggest avoiding personal information. Learn more in our How to Change your Wireless Name guide.

The second setting that should be looked at is titled the Channel. Be sure you are using channels 1,6, or 11. Click this link to look at our WiFi Channels guide.

In the Security Options section pick the option of WPA2-PSK[AES] for maximum security. To check out our guide on the subject, click this link.

The final setting that you should change is called the Passphrase. This is the internet password you use. It's a good idea to use as strong a password as possible. Use a minimum of 14-20 characters and at least one symbol, number, and capital letter. Take a look at our guide found by clicking this link.

Before you exit, don't forget to Apply your changes.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
