Setup WiFi on the Netgear WPN802

The Netgear WPN802 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

Login To The Netgear WPN802

  • Click Wireless Settings under the main heading of Setup.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Netgear WPN802

  • Enter a new name for your network in the box labeled Wireless Network Name (SSID). It doesn't really matter what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information.
  • Take a look at the Channel/Frequency and change it if you are not on channels 1,6, or 11.
  • Click the Apply button.
  • Go to the left sidebar and click the link of WEP/WPA Settings.

  • Use the Network Authentication drop-down menu to choose the best security for your network. Our recommendation is WPA2-PSK.
  • Set the Data Encryption to the stronger choice of AES.
  • Enter an original Passphrase in the proper box. Create a strong password here of at least 14-20 characters and a minimum of one symbol, number, and capital letter.
  • Click the Apply button to save your changes.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
