A factory reset puts your SMC router back to its default settings and default password.
Before You Reset
A reset erases your Internet login, WiFi settings and port forwards. On Comcast Business gateways it also erases any static IP and firewall settings, so call Comcast first.
Method 1: The Reset Button
- With the router on, press and hold the Reset button for about 10 seconds. On cable gateways, hold it for about 30 seconds.
- Let go and wait a few minutes.
Method 2: Reset From the Web Interface
Log in and go to Tools > Restore Factory Defaults (on some models, System > Reset). Click Restore or Apply.
After the Reset
Log in with the defaults (see the SMC login guide), set a new password, and set up your WiFi.
