This is the reset guide for the Thomson DWG855 router. A router reset is very different than a router reboot. A reboot happens every time a router loses power. This is different from a reset because a reset completely erases all settings from the router.

Warning: This is not a step to be taken lightly. When you reset your router, the following will happen.

  • The router's login credentials are reset to factory defaults.
  • Your WiFi name and password are reset.
  • Your ISP settings are reset, which means you will have to contact your ISP to get them back.
  • Any parental controls, firewall settings, or port forwards will be removed.

A router reset should be considered the last resort when you cannot log in to your router any other way. You should be sure that you have tried to at least recover your router password using our Router Password Finder before resorting to a router reset.

Reset the Thomson DWG855

Most routers have a small button on either the back or the bottom. Look for something that looks like this:

Router Reset Button

Your reset button may look different, but usually they are very small. You may need a paper clip to push the reset button.

Keep an eye on the lights on the front of your router while holding the reset button down for about 10 seconds. Notice how the lights on the front of the router are blinking. When the lights do something different, the router is reset. You cannot hold the button too long, and it will not hurt the router to hold the reset button down for longer than 10 seconds.

Just don't forget that this will totally reset your Thomson DWG855 router.

Only do this once you have exhausted all other troubleshooting options, such as running our Router Password Finder software, which can recover a lost router password for you.

Login to the Thomson DWG855

After you are finished resetting your router, you need to login in using the original factory username and password. We have a DWG855 Login Guide with all this information ready for you.

Change Your Password

You need to change your router's default password after you log in for the first time. Since factory passwords are well known, it's a huge security risk to leave your router set to the default. You can follow our Choosing a Strong Password guide to help you pick a solid password for your router.

Tip: A great place to write your new password down is on a piece of paper taped to the bottom of your router.
