Let's begin this wireless setup guide on the Network Configuration page of the Thomson DWG855 router.

  • Select the Wireless option at the top of the page.
  • Select Primary Network in the left sidebar.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Thomson DWG855

  • Enter a new Network Name (SSID) in the box available. This is the network ID and should be fairly unique. Do not use personal data or router info for your name. Check out this guide for more on the topic.
  • Below that you should see WPA, WPA-PSK, WPA2, and WPA2-PSK. Make sure all of these are disabled except WPA2-PSK. This is the security you will be using to protect your network. Find out why this is your best option in the WEP vs. WPA Guide.
  • Set the WPA/WPA2 Encryption to AES.
  • The last setting you need to change is titled WPA Pre-Shared Key. This is the password and should be strong. It is important to use as many characters as possible. We recommend using at least 14 to 20 characters with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. Learn more ideas in this guide.
  • That's it, just click the Apply button to save your changes.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
