This is the reset guide for the TP-Link Archer C8 router. This is not the same thing as rebooting a router. A reboot happens every time a router loses power. However, when you reset a router you, return it back to its factory default settings.
Warning: Before you continue, there are a few things you need to know. A router reset will affect the following settings:
- The router's username and password are reset.
- All WiFi settings are reset, including network name and password.
- All ISP settings will reset to default, and you may have to contact your ISP.
- All port forwards, firewall settings, and parental controls that you have configured will be removed.
A router reset should be considered the last resort when you cannot log in to your router any other way. You should be sure that you have tried to at least recover your router password using our Router Password Finder before resorting to a router reset.

Recover Password in TP-Link Archer C8

A router reset should be the last thing you try if you are unable to login.
Reset the TP-Link Archer C8
There is usually a small reset button located on either the back or the bottom of a router. What you are looking for is something that looks like this:
Reset buttons are usually tiny. Yours may look slightly different than this. You might find a pinhole on the back of the router that requires a paper clip to push the button hidden under it.
Hold the reset button down for about 10 seconds while watching the lights on the front of your router. Notice how the lights on the front of the router are blinking. When the lights do something different, the router is reset. It is harmless to hold the reset button too long.
Don't forget, this step will totally reset your TP-Link Archer C8 router back to factory settings.
Only do this once you have exhausted all other troubleshooting options, such as running our Router Password Finder software, which can recover a lost router password for you.
Login to the TP-Link Archer C8
Once the reset is complete, you need to login to your router using the default IP address, username, and password. Our Archer C8 Login Guide has all of the information that you need.
Change Your Password
After logging in to your router for the first time, you need to change your router's password. Leaving a router password set to default is a very serious security risk. If you need help coming up with a strong password, check out our Choosing a Strong Password guide.
Tip: Write your new password down on a post-it note and stick it to the bottom of your router.
