Setup WiFi on the TP-Link TL-WR741N

Login To The TP-Link TL-WR741N

Find the WiFi Settings on the TP-Link TL-WR741N

If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.

After you have logged into the TP-Link TL-WR741N you should be taken to the Status page. From there, click the link in the left side-bar labeled Wireless. This creates some new choices for you, pick the one called Wireless Settings.

Change the WiFi Settings on the TP-Link TL-WR741N

You are now on the Wireles Settings page.

First, you need to change the SSID. This is your network ID and should be somewhat unique. This can be anything you like but we suggest avoiding personal information. If you are interested learning more, check out this guide.

Second, you may need to change your channel. Do so by opening the drop down list titled Channel and pick the best channel for your network. We recommend using the channels 1,6, or 11. Find out why in this guide.

Save your changes, then click the link in the left sidebar labeled Wireless Security.

You are now on the Wireless Security page. Make sure the radio button labeled WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK is filled in. This is near the bottom of the page

Next, set the Version to WPA2-PSK for maximum security. Learn why in this guide.

Go ahead and set the Encryption to AES.

The last setting you need to change is called the PSK Password. This is your internet password and should be no less 14 characters. Learn how to make it a strong and memorable password in this password guide.

You did it. Just don't forget to click the Save button before you exit.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
