Setup WiFi on the Trendnet TPL-110AP

The Trendnet TPL-110AP router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Wireless Name

Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.

Login To The Trendnet TPL-110AP

To get started configuring the Trendnet TPL-110AP WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Trendnet TPL-110AP

If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.

Once you have logged into the TRENDnet TPL-111BR you should begin on the Status page. Click the link at the top of the page labeled Wireless.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Trendnet TPL-110AP

This takes you to a page like the one you see above. There are two settings that should be changed here. The first is titled Network Name (SSID). This is the name you create in order to identify your network. Make this yours, but avoid personal data. To learn all about the SSID, check out this guide.

The other setting on this page is the Channel. All you need to do here is make sure you are using channels 1, 6, or 11. Want to know why these three channels are so important, check out this WiFi Channels Guide.

Click the Apply button to save your changes. Then at the top of the page, click Security.

In the third section open up the Network Authentication drop down menu. We are looking for the best security to secure your network. The strongest is WPA2-PSK. Check out this guide to learn more about your different options. Since this option is not available, it is highly recommended that you update your firmware.

Below that you can change the WPA Encryption to AES.

The last setting you need to change is the WPA Pre-Shared Key. This is the internet password and should be strong. Use no less than 14 to 20 characters. If you need further help, check out this guide.

That's it, your network is now more secure. Click the Apply button to save your changes before you exit.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
