This guide shows you how to reset your Actiontec T3200 router. This is not the same thing as rebooting a router. Rebooting a router is simply turning it off and back on again. This is different from a reset because a reset completely erases all settings from the router.

Warning: Before you continue, there are a few things you need to know. The following settings will be changed in your router:

  • The router's login and password are reset to factory defaults.
  • All WiFi settings are reset, including network name and password.
  • Your ISP username and password will be reset, and you may have to contact your ISP.
  • Any port forwards, firewall settings, or parental controls that you have configured will be removed.

A router reset is the last step you should take in recovering your router's password. You should be sure that you have tried to at least recover your router password using our Router Password Finder before resorting to a router reset.

Reset the Actiontec T3200

Most routers have a small button on either the back or the bottom. This is what a typical reset button looks like:

Router Reset Button

Yours may look slightly different, but they are usually tiny. You may need a paper clip to push the reset button.

Hold the reset button down for 10 seconds and watch the lights. The blinking pattern of the lights on the front of the router should change when the reset is complete. Do not worry about holding the button down too long; this is harmless.

Just don't forget that this will totally reset your Actiontec T3200 router.

Be sure to only reset your router if you have tried everything else, such as running our Router Password Finder software, which can find your lost or forgotten router password for you.

Login to the Actiontec T3200

Once the reset is complete, you need to login to your router using the default IP address, username, and password. You can follow the T3200 Login Guide to find everything that you need to log in.

Change Your Password

Be sure to change your router's default password after you get logged back in. It's a very bad idea to leave your router's password set to the factory default. Our Choosing a Strong Password guide talks about choosing a strong password for your router.

Tip: Put your new password on a post-in note and stick it to the bottom of your router.
