Have you been trying to login to the Asus RT-AC1900P router without success? It might be time to consider a reset. In this guide when I use the term reset I am not referring to a reboot. A reboot is simply a cycle in the power to the unit. A reset is where all the settings are reverted back to factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting this device is a big step. All your personal settings are erased. We strongly recommend making a list of all the settings you may of changed in the past. These will include the:

  • The router username and password.
  • The WiFi information such as the SSID, encryption, and Internet password.
  • If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP or Internet Service Provider username and password. Call your local ISP for these details.
  • Have you changed any other settings? How about port forwards or IP address changes? These are erased as well. Make sure to write them down as well.

While the router is powered on, take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. This begins the reset process. If you don't hold this button down for long enough you might simply reboot the device instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Caution: Do not unplug or turn off the router during the reset process. This could cause permanent damage to the router.

Please remember a reset like this one erases every single setting you have ever changed in the past. Please consider other troubleshooting options before you continue.

**Tip:**If the defaults didn't work it is possible you didn't hold the reset button down long enough.

Change Your Password

Next, you need to change the default password that you just used. This password is what protects your router interface not the network. To change this password we have some helpful tips for you in our Choosing a Strong Password guide.

Tip: One way to avoid losing this password in the future is to write it down on a piece of paper and stick it to the bottom of the device.
