Configure your Computer to Have a Static IP Address

Port forwarding the Asus WL-500G to your computer can be more reliable if you first configure a static IP address on your computer. We have instructions to setup a static IP address for Windows 7, Windows 8, and a variety of other devices on our Static IP Address Settings page.

Please note that while setting up a static IP address on your computer is optional, it is still a very good idea to go ahead and do it. In the long run it will make your port forward much more reliable.

On this new page, under the yellow heading of Virtual Server List place your cursor in the first box labeled Local IP. Enter the IP Address you are going to be forwarding these ports to in this box. For example if you are forwarding ports to run a program on your computer, type that computer's IP Address in this box.

In the next box is the Port Range. If you are forwarding a single port, enter that port number here, if you are forwarding many ports, then enter them as a range such as 22-34.

You are now at the Protocol drop down menu. From this menu choose the type of protocol you'll when forwarding these ports.

Leave the Protocol No. box empty.

Under the heading of Description enter something that reminds you why you forwarded these ports, such as a program name.

When you are done, click Add, in the yellow bar, then down below, click Apply.
