This guide covers how to reset the Asus WL520GU router. This is not the same thing as rebooting a router. A reboot is cycling the power by turning the router off and back on again. A reset is a more in depth way of troubleshooting a problem. A reset takes all the settings and reverts them back to factory settings.

Warning: Resetting the router could cause unexpected problems if you don't know what changes. Please consider the following.

  • The router's main username and password are reverted to factory settings.
  • The WiFi information such as SSID, and password are reset to factory settings.
  • If you use a DSL connection it will need to have the ISP username and password re-entered. For this information you will need to contact your ISP.
  • All configurations you have ever made to this router are erased. Depending on what you have done it could just mean an IP address is erased or maybe those port forwards and maybe some firewall settings.

Once you have decided that resetting the router is the course of action you want to take the first step is to make sure the router is on. Don't unplug or turn off the router at any point during the reset process. Doing so could cause permanent damage to the router.

The next thing to do is locate the reset button. This is normally found on the back panel. We have found it for you and circled it's location in the image below.
