router wifi security wireless
This is the wifi security page from your Billion Bipac 7700N R2 router.

This page deals with the type of security and encryption you are to use for your home network. The first section is all about WiFi Protcted Setup(WPS). WPS is a very insecure tool. It can easily be cracked. Do not use WPS. We strongly recommend Disabling all WPS.

Now, scroll down to where it says Manual Setup AP. Under this is a drop down list titled Select SSID. Choose the wireless name you created earlier.

Below that is the Network Authentication. This is asking what type of security you want to use. There are quite a few choices here, and we highly recommend reading our guide on the differences by clicking the following link, WEP vs. WPA. The best choice is WPA2-PSK.

The next thing you need to change is the WPA/WAPI passphrase. This is the password you use to access your network. This is also used in the encryption method, so create a strong password of at least 20 characters. Don't use personal information here. Don't use any real words found in a dictionary either. You should use some symbols, and numbers in the password. For more on creating a strong and memorable password, click the link titled Choosing a strong password.

The last thing you need to change is the WPA/WAPI Encryption. This is the type of encryption you are going to use when transmitting your data on the airwaves. It uses your password to create keys. There should be three choices here, TKIP, AES, or TKIP+AES. TKIP is older and has some flaws that make it less secure. We recommend using the option of AES.

Now scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Apply/Save button.

That's it, congratulations, you did it!

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
