On this page, you need to check your Channel. There are three channels that everyone should be using, channel 1,6, or 11. Within the spectrum there is only room for up to three channels that don't overlap. Overlapping channels cause a lot of interference. Sharing a channel completely does not. Be sure you are one of these three channels, 1,6, or 11. For more on this subject, read our guide titled WiFi channels.

Now, click the Apply button at the bottom of the page. Then, in the left sidebar, click Security.

The first section here is called WPS Setup. We strongly recommend turning this off. This can be cracked by a hacker very quickly. Please read our guide by clicking the link, WPS (WiFi Protected Setup).

The next thing on this page is the Select SSID. All you do here is select the wireless name you created earlier.

Next is the Network Authentication. This should be set to WPA2-PSK. This is the strongest security available for home networks. For more on this topic, click the following link, WEP vs. WPA.

Now, scroll down the page until you see a box titled passphrase. This is the password you are to use when accessing your network. Don't use any personal information. Don't use any real words you can find in a dictionary either. Both these types of passwords are much easier to crack. Do use symbols, numbers, and capital letters. Look at our guide titled Choosing a strong password for more on this topic.

The last thing on this page you may want to change is the WPA Encryption. There are two options here, TKIP or AES. We strongly recommend AES, it is much stronger.

That's it, just click the Apply button when you are done.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
