  • Encryption. This router allows for only two options. We recommend upgrading your firmware to allow for WPA2-PSK only. WPA and WEP are less secure. Please read our guide titled WEP vs. WPA for more information.
  • WPA-PSK Encryption Key - This is the password you use to access your network. We recommend using at least 20 characters. Add some symbols, numbers, and capital letters in the password. Don't use personal information. Don't use words that can be found in a dictionary. For more on creating a strong and memorable password, click the link titled Choosing a strong password.
  • Channel selection - You can change your WiFi channel if you need to. Be sure you always are on channel 1,6, or 11. These three channels are the most you can get out of the spectrum without overlapping. Overlapping channels cause a lot of interference. So, unless you live far away from any neighbors, change your channel to either 1,6, or 11. For more on this subject, click the link titled WiFi Channels.

Finally, click the Apply button, and you have created a more secure home network.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
