Setup WiFi on the BT Home Hub 4

The BT Home Hub 4 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.

Login To The BT Home Hub 4

Find the WiFi Settings on the BT Home Hub 4

If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.

You begin on the Home page of the BT Home-Hub-4 router. To configure the WiFi settings, click the link at the very top of the page. Then, below that choose Wireless, and 2.4GHz.

Change the WiFi Settings on the BT Home Hub 4

  1. The Wireless network enable - click Yes.
  2. Wireless SSID - This is the name you give your network so you can identify it when needed. Be sure not to use personal information here. For more on this topic, click the link titled Wireless names.
  3. The Wireless interface type - Go ahead and leave this at the default setting.
  4. Next is the Channel selection - Here, you need to check the channel you are on. If you you are not on channel 1,6, or 11 you need to change it. These three channels are the most you can get out of the spectrum without overlap. Overlap causes a lot of interference. For more on this subject click the link titled WiFi Channels.
  5. The Security is very important. Use the strongest, which is WPA2 Only. To learn more, read our guide titled WEP vs. WPA.
  6. Wirless key(WPA2) is actually the password you use to access your network. This needs to be a strong password of at least 20 characters. Use a few symbols, numbers, and capital letters. Don't use personal information. Don't use any words that are found in a dictionary. To learn more about this topic, read our guide titled Choosing a strong password.
  7. When you are finished, click the Apply button.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
