Have you been trying to login to your router but been unsuccessful? It might be time to consider resetting the Calix 844G-1 router back to its original defaults.
There is a lot of confusion between a reset and a reboot. When you reboot a router you cycle the power to the device. When you reset a router you take all the settings and return them to factory defaults. This means every single setting you have ever changed is erased and returned to factory defaults.
Warning: Make sure you really want to reset the router before you do. Are you aware of what settings are changed? Make a list of any settings you think you may of changed in the history of this device. Some of these settings include:
- The router's main username and password.
- The WiFi information including the SSID and network password.
- If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP or Internet Service Provider username and password. You need to contact your ISP for these details.
- What other settings have you changed? How about port forwards or IP addresses? These are all erased.

Reset the Calix 844G-1
Take a look at the image below. The reset button has been circled for you in red.
While the Calix 844G-1 router is on take a straightened paperclip or other similar object and press down on the reset button for at least 10 seconds. This begins the reset process which can take a few minutes to complete. If you don't hold the reset button/pinhole down long enough you might end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.
Warning: Do not unplug or turn off the router during the reset process! Doing so can cause permanent damage to the device.
Remember a reset like this one is going to erase every single setting you have ever changed on the Calix 844G-1 router. If you have any other option other than resetting the router we highly recommend you try that first.
Login to the Calix 844G-1
After you've successfully reset the Calix 844G-1 router you should log into it. This is done by using the factory default username and password. Not sure where you can find these? We have them listed for your use in our Login Guide.
Tip: If the defaults aren't working for you try holding the reset button down for longer.
Change Your Password
Now that you've reset and logged into your router you'll want to set a new password for it. This can be anything you like, however keep in mind that a strong password is 14-20 characters in length and includes no personal information. Tip: Prevent yourself from losing your new password by writing it on a slip of paper and taping it to the bottom of your router.
