When you want to reset your router you first need to know the difference between a reset and a reboot. A reboot is a cycle of power to the device. When you reset the router you take all the settings and return them all to factory default settings. This page shows you how to reset the Cisco Linksys-EA2700 router back to original factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting this router can cause problems if you are not aware of what settings will be changed by resetting it. We recommend making a list of the settings you know about that will be reset. Consider the following:

  • The Internet name and password are reverted to factory settings.
  • The router setup username and password are also reverted.
  • If you use a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP username and password. We recommend calling your Internet Service Provider for more information.
  • Have you made any other changes to your router? Anything you have changed is reverted to factory settings.

Reset the Cisco Linksys EA2700

When you want to reset the Cisco Linksys-EA2700 router you need to know where the reset button is located. For this model it can be found on the underside of the device. Check out the image below:

As you can see this button is quite small and recessed. We recommend taking a pin or unfolded paperclip to press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds. Sometimes if you don't hold this button down for long enough it causes a reboot instead of the desired reset.

Remember a successful reset erases every personal change you have made to your router. If you want to avoid the inevitability of resetting this router you should try other troubleshooting methods first.

Login to the Cisco Linksys EA2700

The next step is to login to the Cisco Linksys-EA2700 router. Make sure to use the default IP address, username, and password from the factory. We have found this information for you and included it in our Cisco Linksys-EA2700 Login Guide.

Change Your Password

It's always a good idea to change the passwords from the default values. Use our Choosing a Strong Password guide to help you if you need it.

Tip: You should write this new password down somewhere you won't lose it. If you keep this router in your home it's okay to write down this new password on a piece of paper and attach it to the bottom of the device for future reference.
