With this guide I will show you how to reset the Cisco WRVS4400Nv2 router back to it's original factory defaults. This is not the same thing as rebooting a router. To reboot a router is to cycle the power to the device. To do this manually you unplug the power source, wait about 30 seconds, then plug it back in. To reset a router you erase every personal setting you have made and return them all to factory default settings.

Warning: Resetting this router is a big step. Make sure you understand the consequences of this. Consider the following:

  • The router's username and password are reset to factory defaults.
  • The Internet name or SSID and Internet password are reverted to factory settings.
  • The ISP username and password need to be re-entered in order to use the Internet again. To find out what this call your local Internet Service Provider.
  • If you have made any other changes you need to write these down so you can reconfigure them later.

Take the tip of a sharp pencil or pen and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. If you don't hold this button down for the entire amount of time you end up simply rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Please remember that this erases every setting you have ever made to your router. If you want to avoid this you need to try other troubleshooting methods first.
