Setup WiFi on the Corega CG-WLBARGO

The Corega CG-WLBARGO router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

WiFi Terms

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Encryption

Login To The Corega CG-WLBARGO

To get started configuring the Corega CG-WLBARGO WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Corega CG-WLBARGO

If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.

From the home page of the Corega CG-WLBARGO router you should click the option in the left sidebar labeled Wireless Setting. Then the very first file under that titled 802.11g/b Setting.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Corega CG-WLBARGO

This should take you to the page you see above. The first box reads ESSID. This is the name you create in order to identify your network. We recommend avoiding personal information in this name as your neighbors will be able to see it. Learn more in our wireless names guide.

You can also change your Channel on this page. If you need to do so make sure to use channels 1, 6, or 11. We recommend reading this WiFi Channels guide to learn more.

This router is old enough that it doesn't allow for a newer mode than g/b. If you have wireless devices newer than 2012 you may want to consider getting a firmware update for this version of router that will add the newer wireless standards to your options.

Once you are finished with this page you can click the Save button near the bottom of the page.

Over in the left sidebar click the file titled 802.11g/b Security Setting<./p>

This is the wifi security page from your Corega CG-WLBARGO router.

This brings you to the page you see above. First of all open up the drop down list titled Authentication. For the strongest security we recommend choosing the one titled WPA2-PSK. To learn why we recommend this option read our page titled WEP vs. WPA.

Below that is the Cipher Type. Pick the option of AES.

Next find the box titled WPA shared key. This is the Internet password and should be strong. For a guide on that check out our page titled Choosing a Strong Password.

That's it, your network is now more secure. Don't forget to Save before exiting.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
