How to Reset the Dlink AirPremier DI-784

On this page I will be showing you how to reset the Dlink DI-784 router back to the original factory defaults. It's important that you know this is not the same thing as a reboot. In this guide when I use the word reboot I am referring to a cycle in the power to the device. When I use the word reset I am referring to a complete factory restore of all settings.

Warning: When you reset the Dlink DI-784 router you will lose every setting you have ever changed on your device. It's highly recommended that you create a list of all settings you have changed before resetting this router. Consider the following:

  • The router's main username and password are reverted back to factory defaults.
  • The Internet name and password are also reverted back to factory defaults.
  • If you use a DSL connection you need to re-enter the ISP or Internet Service Provider username and password. We suggest calling your local ISP for the details.
  • Have you ever made any other changes to this router? If so make sure to write them down so you can reconfigure them after the reset process is complete.

Now take a moment to find the reset button on your Dlink DI-784 router. It should be located on the back panel like the image below.

As you can see this button is small and recessed into the back of the router. Use the tip of an unfolded paperclip or pin to press and hold the reset button down for about 10 seconds. If you don't hold this button down for long enough you end up only rebooting the router instead of the desired reset.

Remember this reset is erasing every single setting you have ever changed on this device. We highly recommend trying other ways of fixing your problem if you want to avoid this loss of information.

Login to the Dlink AirPremier DI-784

Once you've reset your Dlink DI-784 router you'll need to log into it. This is done by using the factory default username and password found in our Login Guide.

Change Your Password

After resetting and logging into your router you should set a new password. This can be anything you want it to be, however bear in mind that a strong password contains no personal information and is 14-20 characters in length. Tip: Avoid losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the underside of your router.

Setup WiFi on the Dlink DI-784
