With this guide I explain how to reset the Dlink DAP-1555-Bridge-Mode router back to it's original factory defaults. Before we begin you must know the difference between a reset and a reboot. When you reboot a router you cycle the power to the device by turning it off and back on again. A router reset takes every single setting and returns it to factory defaults.

Warning: This router reset is a big problem solving step. Don't take a factory reset lightly. Problems arise when you don't fully understand what it will do. Making a list of settings you have changed is helpful. Consider the following before you reset your router:

  • The reset interface username and password are reverted to factory defaults.
  • The Internet name and password are also reverted to factory settings.
  • If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the Internet Service Provider or ISP username and password. Call your ISP for more details.
  • If you have ever made any other changes to your router such as port forwards or IP address changes these are erased.

Reset the Dlink DAP-1555-Bridge-Mode

The first step in any reset is to locate the reset button. On this Dlink router it is found on the back panel. I have circled it's location for you in the image below.

Take an unfolded paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. This will begin the reset process which could take over a minute to complete. If you don't hold the reset button down for long enough you may end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it causing confusion.

Remember this reset erases every setting you have ever made to your router. We recommend trying other troubleshooting methods first to try and avoid a reset.

Login to the Dlink DAP-1555-Bridge-Mode

Now that you've reset the Dlink DAP-1555-Bridge-Mode router you'll need to log into it. This is done using the factory default username and password. Don't know what these are? We have them listed for you in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't working it could be because you didn't hold the reset button down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Once you've logged in we suggest setting a new password. This can be anything you want, however bear in mind that a strong password is 14-20 characters in length and avoids any use of personal information. For more helpful hints be sure to visit our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: To keep from losing your new password try writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the underside of your router.
