How to Reset the Dlink DGS-1248T

Here I will be showing you how to reset the Dlink DGS-1248T smart switch back to the default settings it had from the factory. Before I begin let's go over two terms that are easily confused. The first is reboot. When I use the word reboot I am speaking of a cycle in the power to the device. The other word is reset. When I use the word reset I mean a complete factory restore. This means every single setting you have ever changed is returned to factory default settings.

Warning: Resetting this smart switch might cause you even more problems if you don't understand what settings are changed during this reset. We suggest making a list of all settings you changed in the past as these will all be erased. Consider the following:

Reset the Dlink DGS-1248T

The very first step is to locate the reset button. We found it for you and circled it in the image below.

This button is quite small. Take the end of an unfolded paperclip or similar object and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. After you let up of the button the reset begins. If you didn't hold the reset button down for the entire length of time you may end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Remember that this reset is erasing every thing you have ever done to your smart switch. A full reconfiguration of the device will be necessary. If you need to avoid this loss of information you need to try other troubleshooting methods.

Login to the Dlink DGS-1248T

Once you've reset this Dlink DGS-1248T smart switch you'll need to log into it. Do this by using the default username and password. We have these listed for you in our Login Guide.

Tip: Defaults not logging you in? It could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Now that you've logged in we recommend setting a new password. Remember that a strong password is 14-20 characters in length and includes no personal information. For more help be sure to visit our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Keep from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it the bottom of your smart switch.
