Setup WiFi on the Dlink DI-514

The Dlink DI-514 router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Dlink DI-514

To get started configuring the Dlink DI-514 WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

You begin on the Home page of the Dlink DI-514v2 router. To configure the WiFi settings, click the link on the left side of the page labeled Wireless.

On this page, use the box titled SSID to enter a new name. This name will help you identify your network from the other ones around you. Read our guide titled Wireless Names for more information.

Next is the Channel. Be sure to use channels 1,6, and 11. These are the most number of channels you can get out of the spectrum without overlap. To learn more, read our guide titled WiFi Channels.

Under this is the WEP Encryption. We strongly recommend against using WEP, it is extremely insecure. Our recommendation is to update your firmware to allow for a more secure encryption, such as WPA2-PSK.

Click the Apply button when you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
