Setup WiFi on the Dlink DWL-2000APv2

This wireless setup guide begins on the Home page of the Dlink DWL-2000APv2 router. First, click the button on the left side of the page labeled Wireless.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Dlink DWL-2000APv2

  • SSID - This is the name you give your wireless network so you can identify it later when you need to access your WiFi. Be creative but avoid personal info such as names. To learn more about this topic, read our guide titled Wireless Names.
  • Channel - Be sure you are on channel 1,6, or 11. If you need to change to one of these three channels, do so using the Channel drop down menu. To learn more about this, read our WiFi Channels Guide.
  • Authentication - This is the security you are to use for your network. Of the choices available, WPA-PSK is the best. If you update your firmware, WPA2-PSK becomes available. To learn more about the different security measures, read our WEP vs. WPA Guide.
  • Passphrase - This is the password you use to gain access to your local internet. This password is also used in the encryption so needs to be secure. We recommend at least 14-20 characters and a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. To learn how to create a strong password that is memorable, read our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.
  • Confirmed Passphrase - Retype your password exactly as it is in the previous box.
  • Apply - Save your changes before you exit.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
