On this page I will be showing you how to reset the Dlink DWL-G820v2 router back to it's factory defaults. This is not the same thing as a reboot. When you reboot a router you are simply cycling the power to the unit. When you reset a router you take all the settings that have been changed on your device and change them back to how they were from the factory.

Warning: This reset erases every setting you have ever changed. Be careful and make a list of all the settings you can think of that you have changed in the past. Take the following list into consideration.

  • The router's main username and password are erased and reverted back to factory defaults.
  • The Internet name and password are also erased and replaced with the factory versions.
  • If this is a DSL router you need to re-input the ISP (Internet Service Provider) username and password. Call your local ISP for the details.
  • Can you think of any other settings you have changed? How about IP addresses or port forwards?

Now that you've successfully reset the Dlink DWL-G820v2 router you'll need to log into it. This is done using the factory default username and password provided for your use in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't logging you in it might be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Once you've logged into your router we recommend setting a new password for your router. This can be whatever you like, however bear in mind that this password will only protect your router settings, not your wireless network. All the same, setting a strong password is always a good idea. For help in doing so be sure to visit our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.
