On this page I will be showing you how to reset the Dlink DGL-4500 router back to factory defaults. This is not the same thing as a reboot. When you reboot a router you cycle the power to the device. This can be done manually by unplugging the power source, waiting about 30 seconds, the plugging it back in. When you reset a router you take all the previously changed settings and return every single one of them back to the original factory settings.

Warning: Resetting this router can cause more problems for you if you don't understand what settings have been changed. We recommend creating a list of all settings you have ever changed. Before continuing, please consider this:

  • The router's main username and password are returned to factory default settings.
  • The Internet name and password are also returned to original factory values.
  • If you are using a DSL connection you need to re-enter the ISP username and password. Call your local Internet Service Provider for the details.
  • Have you made any other changes? Port forwards? IP address assignments? These are all erased and a reconfiguration is needed after the reset is complete.

Taking the end of a paperclip, press and hold the reset button down for about 10 seconds. This begins the reset process. If you don't hold this reset button down for long enough you end up simply rebooting the device instead of resetting it so be careful.

Remember this reset is erasing any changes you have made to this device. We recommend trying other troubleshooting methods first in order to avoid this loss of information.

Login to the Dlink GamerLounge DGL-4500

Once you've reset the Dlink DGL-4500 router you'll need to log into it. Do this by using the factory default username and password. Not sure where to get these? We have them listed for you in our Login Guide.

Tip: If it seems the defaults aren't logging you in it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Now that you're logged in we suggest setting a new password. Keep in mind that this password will only protect your router settings, not your wireless network. Still, a strong password is always a good idea. For help doing so be sure to check out our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: To keep from losing your new password write it on a note and stick it to the bottom of your router.
