How to Reset the Dlink GamerLounge DGL-5500

On this page I show you how to reset the Dlink DGL-5500 router back to factory defaults. This is not the same thing as a reboot which is only cycling the power to the device. A reset is taking all the settings and returning them back to factory defaults.

Warning: Resetting this router can be a problem if you don't understand what settings are changed. We recommend making a list of settings that you know will be changed. Consider the following:

  • The router's main username and password are reverted to factory settings.
  • The Internet name and password are erased and put back to factory defaults.
  • If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP username and password. Call your Internet Service Provider for more information.
  • Have you made any other changes to this router? Write these down so you can reconfigure them later.

Reset the Dlink GamerLounge DGL-5500

Begin by locating the reset button. This is on the bottom of the router. Take a look at the image below:

Taken a paperclip or pen and press down on the reset button for over 6 seconds in order to begin the reset process. If you don't hold this button down for long enough you may end up only rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Remember this reset will erase every single setting you have ever made. If you want to try and avoid losing this information you should try other troubleshooting methods first.

Login to the Dlink GamerLounge DGL-5500

Next you'll need to log into the Dlink DGL-5500 router. This is done by using the default username and password. Not sure where to get these? Find them in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't working for you it may be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

After you're logged in you'll need to set a new password. Bear in mind that this password does not protect your wireless network, only your router settings. However it's always a good idea to use a strong password. For help creating one visit our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Keep from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the underside of your router.

Now is a good idea to check on the Dlink DGL-5500 wireless settings. This should include the Internet name, the password, and the security type of your network.
