Setup WiFi on the Dlink GamerLounge DGL-5500

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Login To The Dlink GamerLounge DGL-5500

This WiFi guide begins on the Home page of the Dlink DGL-5500 router. Click the link on the left side of the page labeled Setup, it has a star next to it. Then on the top of the page, click the choice of WIRELESS SETTINGS.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Dlink GamerLounge DGL-5500

First is the Wireless Network Name. This is the name you give your network so you that you can identify it later on. Don't use personal information here. To learn more, read our Wireless Names Guide.

Now, find the Wireless Channel. All you need to do here is be sure you are on channel 1,6, or 11. To find out why these these channels are important, read our WiFi Channels Guide.

The next section is titled WI-FI PROTECTED SETUP. We strongly suggest not using this option. Read our What is WPS Guide for more information.

Next is the WIRELESS SECURITY MODE. Use the drop down menu and choose WPA-Personal. This is the option you should use for home use.

In the WPA section, use the WPA Mode to choose the WPA2 Only for the best results. Read our guide titled WEP vs. WPA for more information.

Under that is the Cipher Type. Choose between TKIP and AES. We recommend AES.

The last thing you will need to change is the Pre-Shared Key. This is the password. We recommend using at least 20 characters. To learn how to create a strong and memorable password, read our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Click the Save Settings button and you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
