With this page I will show you how to reset the Draytek Vigor-2800G router back to factory defaults. A lot of router companies use the word reset to mean both a reset and a reboot. In this guide when I use the word reboot I am referring to a cycle in the power to the device. When I use the word reset I am talking about a full restore of all settings back to the original factory defaults.
Warning: This means every single setting you have ever changed is erased and reverted back to factory defaults. We recommend taking a moment to make a list of all the settings you have changed in the past. Things you may not of considered are:
- The router's main username and password are reverted back to how they were when they left the factory.
- The Internet name and password are also reverted back to factory defaults.
- If you have a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP or Internet Service Provider username and password. Call your ISP for the details.
- Have you ever forwarded a port or changed an IP address? These all need to be included in your list of settings.

Use a VPN Instead
Have you considered using a VPN instead of forwarding a port? For most users, a VPN is a much simpler and more secure choice than forwarding a port.
We use and recommend NordVPN because not only is it the fastest VPN, it includes a new feature called Meshnet that makes forwarding a port no longer necessary for most applications. With NordVPN Meshnet, you can connect to your devices from anywhere in the world, completely secure, over a highly encrypted VPN tunnel.
When shopping for a VPN, make sure that they meet the following criteria:
- Your VPN provider should have a no-logs policy. This means that they do not keep any logs of any kind.
- Make sure that your VPN provider has lots of exit nodes all around the world.
- Check that your VPN will not affect your speed.
- Verify that your VPN provider uses WireGuard as the underlying protocol.
- Many people prefer a VPN provider that is not based in the United States.
This is the list of requirements that we used when we were shopping around for a VPN provider. There are lots of free, shady VPN providers out there that we looked at and dismissed.
Based in Panama, using diskless servers, and with over 6,100 servers in 61 countries, we can safely say that NordVPN satisfies all of these requirements.
Once you've set up your NordVPN account on multiple computers and enabled Meshnet, you can seamlessly access all of your devices as if they were on the same network. You don't even have to log in to your router. It's very simple.
Every time you click on one of our affiliate links, such as NordVPN, we get a little kickback for introducing you to the service. Think of us as your VPN wingman.
Turn the router around so you are looking at the back panel. The reset button/pinhole is located on the back near one of the antennas. Look at the image below for a more exact location.
With the router powered on, take a non-metallic paperclip and unwind it. Use this to press and hold the reset button down for at least 5 seconds. Hold the reset button down until you see the ACT light start to blink faster than normal.
Please remember a reset like this is going to erase every single setting you have ever changed on your router. We suggest trying other methods of troubleshooting before you decide to reset.

Tip: If the defaults aren't logging you in it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.
Change Your Password
Now that you've successfully reset and logged into your router we recommend setting a new password for it. This can be anything you want it to be however keep in mind that a strong password contains no personal information and is 14-20 characters in length. Tip: Keep yourself from losing your new password by writing it on a note and attaching it to the underside of your router.
