On this new page the first thing you need to do is check the Wireless Channel. It needs to be on channel 1,6, or 11. These three channels don't overlap one another which causes severe interference. Read our guide for more info, WiFi Channels.

Next is the SSID. This is the name you use to identify your local network. It's not important what you enter here but we recommend avoiding personal information. To learn more, read our Wireless Names Guide.

That's all that needs to be changed. Click the blue Apply Changes when you are done.

Looking in the left sidebar, click the link titled Security.

This takes you to the page you see above.

First, change the Security Mode. There are several options here, to learn the differences, read our WEP vs. WPA Guide. We recommend WPA-PSK (no server). The 'no server' is referring to a RADIUS server which 99% of you do not have.

Next, use the Authentication drop down menu to narrow down your choice you just made. The best option here is WPA2-PSK.

The Encryption Technique is after that. AES should be chosen.

The last thing you need to change is the Pre-shared Key (PSK). This is the password you use to access your internet through your router. Be sure it is a strong password. We recommend using at least 14-20 characters with a mix of numbers, symbols, and letters. Read our Choosing a Strong Password Guide for more info.

When you are finished click the Apply Changes button.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
