On this page I will be showing you how to properly reset the Edimax AR-7084gB router back to the original factory defaults. In this guide I will be using the terms reset and reboot. They don't mean the same thing. A reboot is a cycle in the power to the unit. A reset is a complete factory restore of all settings. Every setting you have ever changed is erased and reverted back to how it was when it exited the factory.
Warning: This reset is a big step in problem solving. Before continuing we recommend that you create a list of settings you may of changed in the past. Consider the following:
Do you know where the reset button is located? I have found an image of the Edimax AR-7084gB back panel. Circled in red is the reset button.
While the router is on take a bent paperclip or similar object and press down on the reset button/hole for more than 5 seconds. If you press down on the reset for less than 5 seconds you end up rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.
Remember this reset is serious. It erases every single setting you have ever changed on this router. We strongly recommend that you try other ways of troubleshooting before you go ahead with this reset.
Following that you'll need to log into your Edimax AR-7084gB router. This is accomplished by using the factory default username and password. Not sure where you can find these? Not to worry. We have them provided for your use in our Login Guide.
Tip: If the defaults aren't logging you in it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.
Now that you've reset and logged into your router we suggest setting a new password for it. This can be anything you like, however bear in mind that a strong password consists of 14-20 characters and includes no personal information. For more help be sure to check out our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.
Tip: Keep from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the bottom of your router.
It is time to begin the reconfiguration of the router back to how you had it before the reset was done. Don't forget to include the WiFi settings. For a great guide on this topic check out our How to Setup WiFi on the Edimax AR-7084gB page.
