On this page I will be showing you how to properly reset the Edimax AR-7084gB router back to the original factory defaults. In this guide I will be using the terms reset and reboot. They don't mean the same thing. A reboot is a cycle in the power to the unit. A reset is a complete factory restore of all settings. Every setting you have ever changed is erased and reverted back to how it was when it exited the factory.

Warning: This reset is a big step in problem solving. Before continuing we recommend that you create a list of settings you may of changed in the past. Consider the following:

  • The router's main username and password.
  • The Internet name and password.
  • If you use a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP username and password. Call your ISP for the details.
  • Have you ever forwarded a port or changed an IP address.

While the router is on take a bent paperclip or similar object and press down on the reset button/hole for more than 5 seconds. If you press down on the reset for less than 5 seconds you end up rebooting the router instead of resetting it like you wanted.

Remember this reset is serious. It erases every single setting you have ever changed on this router. We strongly recommend that you try other ways of troubleshooting before you go ahead with this reset.

Login to the Edimax AR-7084gB

Following that you'll need to log into your Edimax AR-7084gB router. This is accomplished by using the factory default username and password. Not sure where you can find these? Not to worry. We have them provided for your use in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't logging you in it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Now that you've reset and logged into your router we suggest setting a new password for it. This can be anything you like, however bear in mind that a strong password consists of 14-20 characters and includes no personal information. Tip: Keep from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the bottom of your router.
