Setup WiFi on the Edimax BR-6204WLg

Login To The Edimax BR-6204WLg

You should begin on the Home page, like the one you see above. To configure the WiFi settings for the Edimax BR-6204WLg you click the option titled General Setup. Then click Wireless and Basic Settings.

You should now be on a page like the one you see here. The first thing you need to change is the SSID. This is the name you create in order to identify your network. Be creative but avoid personal information. Read more by clicking this link.

Next is Channel Number. There are three channels that everyone should be using. Make sure you use channel 1,6, or 11. To learn why, click this link.

Tick the Apply button when you are finished.

Then choose the option at the top of the page labeled General Setup > Wireless > Security.

First, set the Encryption to WPA2. To learn why you should use this security option, click this link.

Next is the WPA Authentication Mode. It should be set to Personal (Pre-Shared Key).

After that is the WPA2 Cipher Suite. Choose the AES option here.

Set the Pre-Shared Key Format to Passphrase.

Finally you need to set the Pre-Shared Key. This is the password you use to gain access to your network using your router. We recommend using at least 14-20 characters. Don't use personal information in this password. Use at least one symbol and number along with the letters you use. Read our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Click the Apply button when you are finished.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
