The Edimax BR-6208AC router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.
Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.
Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.
An important part of securing your wireless network is choosing a strong password.
Picking a WiFi channel is not always a simple task. Be sure to read about WiFi channels before making the choice.
You should almost definitely pick WPA2 for your networks encryption. If you are unsure, be sure to read our WEP vs WPA guide first.
To get started configuring the Edimax BR-6208AC WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.
To login to the Edimax BR-6208AC, follow our Edimax BR-6208AC Login Guide.

Now that you have logged into the Edimax BR-6208AC router you should see a page similar to the one above.
To change the wireless settings click the link in the left sidebar labeled 2.4GHz Wireless.
Then under that pick the option of Basic.
On this page you have all your basic wireless settings. First, find the box labeled Wireless Network Name (SSID). This is the wireless name and should be fairly unique. This name is how you identify your network from the others around you. Don't use personal information or router specific information here. Learn more in our wireless names guide.
If you need to change your Wireless channel you can do that now. Open up the drop down list labeled Channel Number. Pick the channel you want to use. We strongly recommend using only channels 1,6 or 11. Why? Read our WiFi Channels guide.
Next is the Encryption. For the strongest security choose WPA-Pre-shared Key. To learn more read our WEP vs. WPA guide.
You are now given the option of choosing what type of WPA you want to use. Next to WPA Unicast Cipher Suite choose the option of WPA2(AES).
Below that is the Pre-shared Key Format. Pick the option of Passphrase.
Finally the last setting that needs your input is the Pre-shared Key. Enter in a new password here for your Internet. This password should be at least 14 characters long. We have a lot of tips for you in our guide labeled Choosing a Strong Password.
That's it, simply click the orange Save Settings button at the bottom of the page.
After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
