The Edimax BR-6216Mg router is considered a wireless router because it offers WiFi connectivity. WiFi, or simply wireless, allows you to connect various devices to your router, such as wireless printers, smart televisions, and WiFi enabled smartphones.
Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.
Your wireless network needs to have a name to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks. If you are not sure what this means we have a guide explaining what a wireless name is that you can read for more information.
An important part of securing your wireless network is choosing a strong password.
Picking a WiFi channel is not always a simple task. Be sure to read about WiFi channels before making the choice.
You should almost definitely pick WPA2 for your networks encryption. If you are unsure, be sure to read our WEP vs WPA guide first.
To get started configuring the Edimax BR-6216Mg WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.
To login to the Edimax BR-6216Mg, follow our Edimax BR-6216Mg Login Guide.

Now that you are on the correct page find the ESSID. This is the name you are going to create in order to identify your network. It doesn't matter what you enter here but we do recommend avoiding personal information. If you want to learn more about the ESSID, read our guide by clicking this link.
The next setting is the Channel. There are three different channels you can use. Channels 1,6, and 11. To learn why you should only be using these three channels, read our guide by clicking this link.
That's all there is on this page, go ahead and click the Apply button. Then, look in the left sidebar and click the option of Security Settings.
The first setting you need to change is the Encryption. There are several options here. We recommend choosing the option of WPA pre-shared key. Read more by clicking this link.
After that is the WPA Unicast Cipher Suite. This is just narrowing down the option you chose above. We recommend choosing WPA2(AES).
Next is the Pre-shared Key Format. Select Passphrase.
Finally is the Pre-shared Key. This is the password you use to gain access to your network. You need to use as many letters as possible. We recommend at least 14 characters. Don't use any personal information here but do use some symbols and numbers along with the letters. Read more by clicking this link.
Click the Apply button at the bottom of the page.
After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
