Setup WiFi on the Edimax BR-6216Mg

Before we get started there is a little bit of background info that you should be familiar with.

Encryption

Login To The Edimax BR-6216Mg

To get started configuring the Edimax BR-6216Mg WiFi settings you need to login to your router. If you are already logged in you can skip this step.

Find the WiFi Settings on the Edimax BR-6216Mg

If you followed our login guide above then you should see this screen.

This guide begins on the Home page of the Edimax BR-6216Mg. Start by clicking the link in the left sidebar labeled Wireless. Then click Basic Settings in the left sidebar.

Change the WiFi Settings on the Edimax BR-6216Mg

Now that you are on the correct page find the ESSID. This is the name you are going to create in order to identify your network. It doesn't matter what you enter here but we do recommend avoiding personal information. If you want to learn more about the ESSID, read our guide by clicking this link.

The next setting is the Channel. There are three different channels you can use. Channels 1,6, and 11. To learn why you should only be using these three channels, read our guide by clicking this link.

That's all there is on this page, go ahead and click the Apply button. Then, look in the left sidebar and click the option of Security Settings.

The first setting you need to change is the Encryption. There are several options here. We recommend choosing the option of WPA pre-shared key. Read more by clicking this link.

After that is the WPA Unicast Cipher Suite. This is just narrowing down the option you chose above. We recommend choosing WPA2(AES).

Next is the Pre-shared Key Format. Select Passphrase.

Finally is the Pre-shared Key. This is the password you use to gain access to your network. You need to use as many letters as possible. We recommend at least 14 characters. Don't use any personal information here but do use some symbols and numbers along with the letters. Read more by clicking this link.

Click the Apply button at the bottom of the page.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
