Are you unable to access the EE BrightBox web interface pages? If you have tried other methods of troubleshooting and still can't login you may need to reset the EE BrightBox router back to it's original factory defaults.

What is the difference between a reset and a reboot?

  • Reboot - A reboot is a cycle in the power to the unit. This is done by removing the power, waiting approximately 20 seconds and plugging the power back into the device. This does solve some minor problems you might have with your router. It does not change any settings though.
  • Reset - A reset changes every setting you have ever messed with. It takes and returns the entire router back to the way you had it before you bought it.

Warning: Resetting this router is a big step and should not be taken lightly. Please consider other options first. If you are ready to reset the EE BrightBox router you should first write a list of all the settings you may of changed such as:

  • The router's main username and password.
  • The Internet name and password
  • If this is a DSL router you need to re-enter the ISP (Internet Service Provider) username and password. You have to call your local ISP for these details.
  • Have you made any port forwards or changed any IP addresses? Writer down anything else you can think of so you can remember to reconfigure them afterwards.

Reset the EE Bright Box

The very first step in a reset is to find the reset button. Turn the router around so you are looking at the back panel. The reset button is found there. For more of an idea of the reset button take a look at the image below. The reset button is circled in red.

While the router is on, take a straightened paperclip and press down on the reset button for about 10 seconds. If you simply press and release this button you only reboot the router instead of resetting it.

Please don't forget that this reset is erasing every personal change you have made to the unit. We recommend trying other options first before resetting the EE BrightBox router.

Login to the EE Bright Box

After you've reset your EE BrightBox router you'll want to log into it. This is done by using the factory default username and password. Don't know where you can find these? We have them listed for your use in our Login Guide.

Tip: If the defaults aren't working for you it could be because the reset button wasn't held down for long enough.

Change Your Password

Now that you've reset and logged into your router we suggest setting a new password for it. Remember that this password will only protect your router settings, not your wireless network. Still, setting a strong password is always a wise decision. For more help be sure to take a look at our Choosing a Strong Password Guide.

Tip: Keep from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the bottom of your router.

Setup WiFi on the EE BrightBox

It is time to begin the reconfiguration process. Don't forget that your WiFi settings have been reset and it's important that you set these back up as soon as possible. We have a great guide on the topic if you're interested. Check it out here on our How to Setup WiFi on the EE BrightBox page.
