How to Reset the FRITZ BOX WLAN 7170-EN

On this page I will show you how to properly reset the FRITZ WLAN-7170 router back to the original factory defaults. This is not the same thing as a reboot. If I use the word reboot I am referring to a cycle in the power to the unit. If I use the word reset I am referring to a complete factory restore of all settings.

Warning: Resetting a router like this is a big step and should not be taken lightly. We recommend making a list of any settings you have changed in the past such as:

  • The FRITZ WLAN-7170 main username and password to access the interface.
  • The Internet name and password are also reverted back to factory defaults.
  • Is this a DSL router? If so you need to re-enter the ISP or Internet Service Provider username and password. You need to call your local ISP for the details.
  • If you have made any other changes these need to be written down as well.

To reset the FRITZ WLAN-7170 router you need to use a telephone associated with the FRITZ WLAN-7170 router.

  • Press the buttons #991*15901590* on the handset of the telephone.
  • Pick up the handset and then hang it back up.

This begins the reset process which could take a couple minutes to complete.

Do not forget that a reset like this one is erasing every single setting you have ever changed in the history of this device. We strongly recommend trying other methods of troubleshooting before you continue.

Login to the FRITZ BOX WLAN 7170-EN

Now that you've reset the FRITZ WLAN-7170 router you should log into it. This is accomplished by using the factory default username and password provided for your use in our Login Guide.

Change Your Password

After you've logged into your router we suggest setting a new password for it. Bear in mind that this password will only protect your router settings, not your wireless network. Tip: Keep yourself from losing your new password by writing it on a sticky note and attaching it to the bottom of your router.
