Setup WiFi on the FRITZ BOX WLAN 7170-EN

This guide begins on the Contents page of the FRITZ WLAN-7170 router. To configure the WiFi settings click the option on the left or center titled WLAN. This opens a new menu, pick the option of Radio Network.

Tick the Apply button at the bottom of the page. Then tick the option in the left sidebar labeled Radio Channel.

Check the bullet next to Adjust radio channel settings.

A box should now appear titled Radio channel. Use this drop down menu to pick an appropriate channel. Make sure to use channels 1,6, or 11. Learn more about these three channels by clicking this link.

Tick the Apply button at the bottom of the page. Then click the option in the left sidebar labeled Security.

You are then taken to a page like the one seen here.

In the first section titled Security choose WPA encryption (recommended, highest security). This is the best option for home networks. To learn more, click this link.

Now drop down to the WPA Encryption. The WPA Mode should be set to WPA2 (CCMP).

Finally, change the WLAN key. This is the password you use to type into wireless devices to allow access on your network. We recommend using at least 14-20 characters with a mix of numbers, letters, and symbols. If you want to learn how to create a strong password, read our guide titled Choosing a Strong Password.

Click the Apply button.

That's it, you are done.

Possible Problems when Changing your WiFi Settings

After making these changes to your router you will almost definitely have to reconnect any previously connected devices. This is usually done at the device itself and not at your computer.
